Technology. Where art thou?

Across the business world, there is a notable and active embracing of the next product or tool aimed at significantly improving the service delivered to the customer. Why, then, is it not the same within the legal sector? Technology within the Scottish legal profession has consistently been viewed as somewhat of an afterthought, or at the very most, something that remains perpetually on the to-do list, while everyone seems far too busy to take any meaningful action regarding it. After all, law firms, by their very nature, operate as businesses and need to construct internal business cases that justify the benefits and, more importantly, assess how much non-chargeable time it will ultimately consume.

The lack of adequate technological integration has significantly challenged a solicitor’s job. Solicitors now face a multitude of tasks, ranging from managing a high volume of emails to navigating complex Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms, each demanding careful attention and organization. There are indeed tools and software applications that are widely employed, such as comparison software used to compare one version of a document against another, or electronic signing solutions, but that’s as futuristic as it gets for the average firm in this field. The advent of AI and legal technology has introduced a sense of wonder, excitement, and pause for thought within the legal sector, prompting new possibilities. The potential to enhance the customer experience is substantial, making this a no-brainer for any law firm eager to distinguish themselves and break away from the pack.

Here at ProTech Legal, we get it. We understand that it is worth the time to create bespoke legal tech to improve service. Fundamentally, it is a mutually beneficial decision, as we can integrate automation on our side, which means we have more time to service clients and keep our costs down as the time dealing with administrative matters is less.
